Vogel (1970a) listed the known fauna of Texas and Jackman (1997) covers much of the Texas fauna in some detail (including a list of the known spiders of Texas by D. A. Dean) and with a more modern classification. While a few localized faunas have been covered (Beatty 1961, Jung and Roth 1974, Muma 1975, 1980, Gertsch & Riechert 1976, Lowrie 1985), and some individual families for localized areas (e. g. Richman and Roth 1976), little has been published on the overall faunas of Arizona and New Mexico. A number of revisions have been published which include spiders found in the arid Southwest. These are mentioned in the descriptions of individual families, genera or species.
